The Southwest trip in early summer ‘05 took me through Arizona, New Mexico and southern Utah. A ‘must-see’ was, of course, the Grand Canyon. I camped overnight and photgraphed both the last light of the day and the sunrise the next morning. The ‘golden hours’ at a place like the Grand Canyon make all the difference. The change in the light as the day progressed and finally ended was extraordinary. A few selections:
The canyon went from orange and yellow to deep violet and blue. I kept shooting well after dark. Adjusting exposure as I photographed, I was able to pull out a wonderful palate of rich, deep hues.
A little before sunset isolated patches of the canyon were still lit by the setting sun. Great contrast. I made the sunlit parts the focus of attention. Here, this long spine curved dramatically toward a small peak.
Sea of Light. The dark shadows and warm sunlit canyon walls reminded me of an ocean-rolling waves of light and shadow.

I’m now being “fed” the posts…should be nourishing.
